AVON, CT, January 20, 2010 —
All too often, new computer
hardware arrives in an information technology center
amid glowing claims of productivity improvements, only
to be disappointed by reality. Not so with solid state
disks at COCC.
Installed in September 2009,
solid state disks have increased COCC’s system
performance by a whopping 86% overall, and literally
‘changed the scale’ when measuring the time needed to
process financial transactions – the lifeblood of the
business.
Solid state disks use memory (DDR
or Flash) to store and access data, eliminating the need
for spinning magnetic disks and delivering far greater
storage speeds with less power and cooling requirements.
Data is stored directly on memory chips and accessed
from them. Internal batteries and backup disks prevent
data loss in the event of power loss or shutdown.
The change enables COCC to add
new clients and services at a reduced cost. As a
cooperative data center, COCC continually seeks these
opportunities to invest in next generation IT services. |
