AVON, CT, January 29, 2010 —
How much money
can an impromptu “Denim Day” raise for Haiti relief? At
COCC, the answer is $5,736.
The premier
information technology service for community banks and
credit unions scheduled its Denim Day for Haiti Relief a
few days after the devastating
earthquake on January 12. The usual five dollar fee
charged for wearing denim pants to work was increased to
six dollars in order to attract more funds, and the
company pledged to match all donations.
By day’s end, COCC employees
had contributed a total of $2,868 to the American Red
Cross’s Haiti Earthquake Relief effort. The company
matched that amount and yesterday donated the full
$5,736 to Red Cross personnel at a brief ceremony in
Avon.
Betty Dugan, Development
Director for the Connecticut Red Cross, thanked COCC for
its speed in getting the deeply needed funds to her
agency. “This is going to be a long haul for the people
of Haiti,” said Dugan. “We are thrilled to have the
swift and generous support of companies like COCC. They
are making a big difference in our service to those in
need.” |
