History of Innovation

COCC opened its doors in Hartford in 1967 and today delivers complete enterprise processing solutions to financial institutions throughout the northeastern United States. From being the first data center in the country to offer online processing for NOW accounts, to pioneering open core processing solutions and receiving national recognition for Y2K preparations, COCC continues its legacy of innovation and collaboration with clients. 1967
COCC Opens for Business
The first office is located in Hartford, CT. Fifteen clients convert to deposit services.
 
1969
Loan Processing
COCC adds loan processing to its deposit services. Fourteen clients convert from competing data centers. Mark Pumiglia appointed manager.
 
1960s
1972
COCC Moves to Avon
Headquarters moved to Avon Park North, tripling the size of its original Hartford location.
 
1973
Online NOW
First data center to offer online real time processing for NOW accounts. COCC gains national recognition as Massachusetts banks sign up, doubling the client base.
 
1976
First System Migration
All clients migrated to new online software running on new hardware. Adds account maintenance functions plus, new reporting.

1980
Client Report Cards
First data center to introduce a client report card rating system to measure service quality.
 
1981
New Headquarters
COCC launches new logo to reflect its new expanding stature in the financial IT industry. New facility in Avon Park South quadruples space.
 
1983
New Services Introduced
General ledger and commercial lending services introduced; COCC opens transaction services to all teller and back room workstations. Mark Pumigilia named President and CEO.
 
1985
Switched ATM Services
COCC introduces switched ATM transactions via Yankee 24. Loan origination and micro-to-mainframe connectivity introduced.
 
1987
Check Processing Services
COCC introduces check processing services. First credit union converts.
 
1988
COCC Acquires WMCC
COCC acquires Western Massachusetts Computer Center. Twenty new clients and 18 WMCC staff members join COCC.
 
1980s
1991
Steamlined Processing
COCC revamps navigation and functions to increase client efficiency. New loan origination platform introduced. Twenty new clients convert.
 
1993
Packet Communications
COCC becomes the first financial data processing center to use X.25 packet switching. Communications speeds accelerate with increased reliability. COCC opens business continuity center.  
 
1997
COCC Celebrates 30 Years of Excellent Service
Acquisition of Open Core Processing platform from Open Core Solutions, Inc. and introduction of Check Image Statements and Internet Banking Services.
 
1999
Year 2000 Preparations Commended
COCC receives national recognition for year 2000 testing and documentation. COCC model endorsed by the FDIC. Oracle Financials introduced.
 
1990s
2002
Rich Leone Elected President & CEO
Market expanded to include New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. New services introduced, including a robust suite of commercial services.
 
2003
Client Migration Complete
COCC becomes the first financial data processing center to migrate all of its clients to an open core platform. Featured in MicroBanker cover story. CUVIsion of Rochester, NY acquired. Client ratings reach record levels.
 
2005
Check Image/AML Underway
COCC converts its first check image-processing clients. Creates a financial institutions, which become models for the industry. Anti-money laundering and automated patches systems installed.
 
2006
COCC Wins Recognition
Named to FinTech 100, Deloitte’s Connecticut Technology Fast 50 and receives Hartford Metro Alliance Business Champion Award; first check image processing clients convert.
 
2007
40 Years of Outstanding Service
COCC celebrates its 40th year of outstanding service with record earnings and client ratings. Document Management and Business Process Management systems introduced.
 
2008
100% Image and Green Initiatives
COCC leaves check paper behind with 100% image processing; Financial-Insights features COCC in Virtualization Study; First clients upgraded to new .NET core platform. COCC joins the Inc. 500.
 
2009
Wins CIO 100 & Quality Awards
COCC completes its best year with strong client service ratings and record earnings. Offers the industry’s first product and services rebate. CTO Joe Lockwood honored at CIO 100 gala. Betsy Didan is a CT Women of Innovation Finalist, and COCC wins the Connecticut Quality Council’s first process excellence award.
